Residents Working Together for Better Transport
Residents at Willows Park Estates have been working together over recent weeks to raise an important local issue: improved access to public transport. Earlier this year, changes were made to two nearby bus routes, leaving the closest bus stop around a 15-minute walk from the park and the nearest shop roughly a 20-minute walk. Understandably, many of our owners felt the new arrangements made everyday travel more challenging.
Councillor Engagement and Community Support
Three residents – Daphne, Sue and Coral – took the lead by approaching Councillor Da Costa during a public council meeting to discuss the impact of these changes. He encouraged residents to show their support through a petition and personal letters outlining how the revised routes were affecting daily routines, access to essentials, and general independence.
What followed was an outstanding community effort. Thanks to the hard work of Daphne, supported by Sue and Coral, a petition signed by 125 residents was gathered, along with 10 personal letters detailing the difficulties the new bus stop locations had created.
Councillor Da Costa has since visited Willows Park Estates twice to speak directly with residents and staff. The first meeting brought together around 35 owners, giving them the chance to share their experiences and concerns. The second meeting, held in our new office, allowed the team to formally hand over the petition and supporting letters.
Petition Results and Next Steps
We are pleased to share that the councillor has now proposed changes to the bus routes, which would bring convenient bus stops closer to the park once again. Several options have been discussed, and residents have expressed that they would be very happy with any of the solutions put forward so far.
Councillor Da Costa will be back in touch with an update in the coming weeks, and we will share any news with you as soon as we receive it.
Looking Forward to Improved Bus Access
This has been a wonderful example of the strength and unity within our community. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who signed the petition or contributed a letter — and especially to Daphne, Sue and Coral for their dedication and determination in representing the wishes of our residents.
